What we offer

Projeto Kirimurê presently lends its hand to one hundred 4 to 16 year olds, offering them an opportunity for a healthier life through guidance and involvement in our programs.

The central axis of activities is capoeira, a multidimensional African-Brazilian art form that involves movement, music, history, and practical philosophy. In social terms, capoeira has proven to be a powerful tool for awakening individuals to their greatest potential. Through the practice of capoeira we are opening a dialogue with the children about who they are, why they are special, where they come from, and how to find positive solutions to seemingly impossible problems. As they learn the jogo de capoeira, its music, history and philosophy, they develop physical and emotional strength, discover their roots, and build self-esteem and character.

We offer them a safe space to practice, as well as a library and infrastructure that allows them to get help with their homework, attend workshops in traditional arts and crafts, learn about environmental and health education, read stories, and receive some supplemental nutrition.
